VRQ - Vocationally-Related Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
Progression options available to candidates who have gained this qualification are:
• Enter employment at trainee level (eg training to become a care assistant) and undertake a related NVQ (or other occupational qualification) at a level appropriate to their job role.
• Undertake additional Level 2 qualifications part-time or full-time in further education (eg OCR Level 2 National Certificate in Health and Social Care, GCSE).
• Undertake additional Level 3 qualifications part-time or full-time in further education (eg OCR Nationals in Health, Social Care and Early Years, or in another sector area, A-Level).
Progression from this qualification to the OCR Level 3 Nationals in Health, Social Care and Early Years is supported by content overlap across selected units at each level. Progression into employment, perhaps through an Apprenticeship scheme, is also supported by the relationship of this qualification to national occupational standards.
Progression to this qualification is from the OCR Level 1 Nationals in Health and Social Care.
The qualification will be entirely centre-assessed and OCR moderated. The OCR Level 2 Nationals in Health and Social Care allow for holistic assessment, although it is not a requirement. The assessment methodology for the OCR Nationals was approved by the regulatory authorities as a suitable alternative to independent assessment, with external moderation offering the required quality control.
Candidates need to achieve two mandatory units from Group A and one optional unit from Group B to achieve a full award.
