It provides education and training in craft, technical and operative areas that are directly relevant to the changing needs of construction employees, employers and professions, together with knowledge and understanding of the key issues of sustainability and health, safety and welfare within the construction industry.
The qualification provides opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life, and to develop and evidence knowledge and skills that are relevant to the QCA key skills units.
For learners who already have an interest in the construction industry but have not yet fully decided on a career path the BTEC First Diploma in Construction provides an opportunity to try out a range of related activities, either by following a general path utilizing a range of different specialist units, or in greater depth by following instead a recommended specialist pathway. Centres may offer a range of specialist units to produce appropriate courses of study for their learners, eg multi-skilled or specialist.
