Qualification summary

The Level 3 Certificate in Accounting (IAS) is a broad-based qualification which offers learners an academic yet practical approach to the accounting discipline and the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in using the International Accounting Standards, which all public limited companies must now adopt. It aims to allow candidates to develop:
- an understanding of the basic principles underlying the recording of business transactions
- the ability to prepare and interpret accounts for sole traders, partnerships, non-trading
organisations, companies and groups of companies in accordance with basic accounting
conventions and current international accounting standards and practices
- the ability to apply the principles of decision making

Learners may progress to the EDI Level 4 Financial Accounting (IAS) or they may use the qualifcation to progress to relevant degree courses or to professional bodies qualifications, such as the ACCA. Addtionally, the knowledge and skills developed will provide a basis for progression to NVQ Level 3 in Accounting.

EDI is providing a written test for learners. There is just one test for the whole qualification. This test is wholly externally marked by EDI.
