Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Award in Performing Arts
Qualification summary
The revised BTEC National Award, Certificate and Diploma in Performing Arts with Acting, Circus Skills, Dance, Musical Theatre, Performance pathways are designed as successors to the current Edexcel Level 3 BTEC qualifications of the same titles. The revisions to the BTEC Nationals in Performing Arts allow for the opportunity to update the units and revise the content where appropriate. The performing arts sector sees continual change in terms of techniques and technology used in all areas and particularly in those that involve the dance or technical pathways, it is for this reason that we have introduced new dance units, such as World Dance, Exploring Contact Improvisation and Urban Dance.
Further information will be added to each of the units in terms of a unit abstract and also in relation to the delivery and assessment strategies. More detailed information in each of these sections will allow tutors to offer a more informed approach to the implementation of the individual units and therefore also to the complete qualification, whether it is a BTEC National Award, Certificate or Diploma.
The vocational context of the qualification is provided through the core units and additional optional units such as Approaches to directing theatre, Stand up comic technique, Applying classical ballet technique, World dance, Clowning, to name but a few. This vocational nature of the qualification is underlined through links to the relevant Sector Skills Council.
