EDEXCEL Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Health and Social Care

Qualification summary

The purpose of the BTEC National Certificate is to provide a learning experience that is focused on the learner, enabling learning that draws on the experiences of learners but that is closely linked to the vocational sector. Therefore work experience and links to the workplace form a central part of the programmes.

The aim of the qualification is to provide a basis of knowledge which covers the core units of the Level 3 National Occupational Standards in Health and Social Care for learners who wish to work in the Health and Social Care sector. Specialist units provide the opportunity to tailor programmes to specific vocations or for the exploration of more specialist aspects of job roles within the sector. The BTEC Nationals have been developed with close reference to the National Occupational Standards to ensure that learners will have a firm grounding in the principles of health and social care when they progress to employment.

The aim of the Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Health and Social Care is to provide a vocationally related qualification that draws on the main themes of work in the sector. The National Certificate provides the opportunity to complete work placement which add to the vocational scope of the qualification. The opportunity to work in a variety of sectors combined with the option of selecting a number of specialist units means that learners on this programme have an opportunity of gaining a broad understanding of the sector and a specialist understanding of specific aspects of the sector.
