EDEXCEL Level 1 BTEC Award in Mathematical Applications (Pilot)

Qualification summary

This two-unit BTEC Award offers a maths qualification that focuses on applications within three specific vocational areas – travel and tourism, sport and engineering. This qualification is flexible in its delivery mode and may be offered to learners who:

- Would benefit from studying a programme of maths at Level 1 prior to commencing a qualification such as GCSE Maths
- Are interested in further study in a vocational area and would like a taster of this
-Are studying for a maths qualification such as functional skills want to develop these skills in a vocational context.

This qualification offers learners a progression route to vocational qualifications such as the BTEC Firsts in Travel and Tourism or Sport.

This qualification will develop mathematical skills associated with different employment sectors. It therefore contributes to learners' preparation for work in one of these chosen sectors. Learners can progress from the BTEC Level 1 Award in Mathematical Applications to the BTEC Level 2 Award in Mathematical Applications, GCSE Maths, Maths Functional Skills Level 2 or sector-specific Level 2 qualifications such as the BTEC First Diploma in Travel and Tourism.

Coursework
All assessment is is carried out by centre assessors. All assessment is based on specific criteria set out in each unit. All assessed work is subject to internal verification procedures, whereby assessed evidence is sampled on an ongoing basis by appointed and qualified individuals in the centre. External Verification takes place on a cyclical basis and assessor and internal verification decisions are sampled.
Learners must complete one unit from group A and one unit from group B
