VRQ - Vocationally-Related Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
As a Contributing Qualification to the National Occupational Standards, e-Quals provides a suitable stepping stone and bridges the gap between VRQs and NVQs. Training is an essential element of the IT User NVQ and the Advanced Diploma for IT Users is key to this.
From this qualification, employees will be able to progress onto related VRQs or NVQs in IT.
In many cases, employees require significant training in IT areas and skills ranging from basic to more advanced levels to operate efficiently in a working environment. Employers are keen to attract recruits who are familiar with IT packages, from beginner to advanced.
The assessment methods include
a) an on-line multiple choice test for the mandatory unit, which is set and marked by City & Guilds
b) an assignment for each optional unit completed, which is set by City & Guilds and marked by the centre
c) online tests for the Certiport IC3 units (Key Applications, Living online), which are set and marked by Certiport
d) online tests for the Microsoft Office Specialist units (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), which are set by Microsoft and marked by Certiport.
As with the NVQ for IT Users (ITQ), candidates will be able to use units from different levels to gain their VRQ.
To achieve an enhanced Advanced Diploma, the candidate must achieve five units, consisting of the mandatory unit (Group A) plus two optional units from Group B, and any two units from Group B, C or D.
