The qualification is being developed as part of a suite of start-up VQs. The OCR Level 2 Award and Certificate in Preparing for a Business Venture will act as progression steps towards the OCR Level 3 Award in Starting a Business Venture.

OCR is also developing a Level 3 Certificate in Starting a Business Venture which will form a direct progression route. The Certificate will consist of five units – the two Award units plus an additional three mandatory units. It is intended that the Level 2 qualifications are used as preparatory qualifications for those candidates who may be considering the requirements involved in setting up in business, whilst the Level 3 qualifications are aimed at those candidates who are starting, or in the throes of actually setting up, in business.

OCR also offers NVQs in Business Start-up and Business Advice. This VQ could, therefore, also be offered as a stepping stone towards the relevant NVQ.

The qualifications are designed to be practically-based tasks with a clear view to the candidate being able to set up their own business as a final outcome if they desire to do so.
