Qualification summary

The BTEC Nationals in Agriculture have been developed to focus on:
• the education and training for those employed in agriculture in a variety of work, such as: practical farming, animal feed, arable fertilisers and allied industries such as computer support, advisory work and education
• providing opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally-specific qualification to enter employment or progress to suitable higher level vocational qualifications
• developing the vocational knowledge, understanding and skills of learners that are required for employment in the agriculture industry
• providing opportunities for learners to focus on the development of key skills and their application
• providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance throughout their careers.

The proposed qualification will provide a progression route for learners who have already undertaken level 2 qualifications in this area, or other level 3 qualifications, and wish to progress to another qualification, for example, a BTEC National Diploma in Agriculture. BTEC National qualifications provide the knowledge and understanding that are expected of learners who seek employment in agriculture, particularly those who aspire to supervisory and/or management roles. BTEC National Awards can be completed as programmes in their own right or as additional learning for full-time learners on other programmes and/or those already in employment who wish to study for the qualification on a part-time basis.

Portfolio of Evidence
The External Verification process will provide an element of external quality control which is independent of the centre.
For the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Award in Agriculture learners must do one unit from Group A and five specialist units from Group B.

Note: From both Group A and Group B learners must do one unit only from either 034 Animal Anatomy and Physiology OR Unit 24 Principles of Plant and Soil Science.
