EDEXCEL Level 2 NVQ in Custodial Care
Qualification summary
The aim of the Edexcel Level 2 NVQ in Custodial Care is to provide an occupationally-related qualification for people employed in prisons on Officer Support Grades, who do not have direct contact with prisoners. Typical tasks that they undertake at work include staffing prison gates, searching visitors, operating electronic monitoring equipment, and escorting contractors on prison premises. This qualification allows candidates to develop the competence, knowledge and understanding to perform their jobs effectively, and to enhance their career prospects.

Learners who have completed the Level 2 NVQ in Custodial Care may be eligible to progress into further employment as prison officers after undergoing Prison Officer Entry Level Training, at which point they will able to take the Level 3 NVQ in Custodial Care.

01 Health, Public Services and Care
All assessed work is subject to internal verification (IV) procedures, whereby work is sampled on an ongoing basis by appointed IVs. External Verification takes place on a regular basis, and assessor and IV decisions are sampled.
Candidates must complete the four mandatory units in Group 1, plus four optional units from Group 2 (total eight units).
