EDEXCEL Level 3 Extended Project

Qualification summary

The Edexcel Level 3 Extended Project has been designed for learners to study a topic area which extends or expands their learning in an appropriate area of study. This qualification can be used as a stand-alone qualification or used as part of a 14-19 Diploma in England or the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification in Wales. Learners select a project which may be completed over one or two years. Learners will be assessed on their ability to plan, manage, complete and review their project.

The Level 3 Extended project gives learners the opportunity to: have a significant input to the choice and design of an extended project and take responsibility either for an individual task or for a defined task within a group project; develop and improve their own learning and performance as critical, reflective and independent learners; develop and apply decision making and, where appropriate, problem solving skills;extend their planning, research, critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills; where appropriate, develop as e-confident learners and apply new technologies in their studies; develop and apply skills creatively demonstrating initiative and enterprise; use their learning experiences to support their personal aspirations for further study and/or career development

This qualification supports progression into further education, training or employment by developing skills in key areas such as planning, research, project management and self-reflection. In England, the Level 3 Extended Project contributes towards the Diploma. In Wales it can be used as evidence for the Individual Investigation part of the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification.

Signposting will be provided in the specification to show where there are opportunities to develop evidence for Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Functional Skills (for England) and Key Skills (for Wales).
