Qualification summary
The Extended Project must support learner progression and complement a learner's overall study programme whether it is being taken as part of a Diploma or as a standalone qualification.
The aims of the project are to provide learners with opportunities to
1. identify independently the choice and design of an extended project by taking responsibility either for an individual project or for a defined task within a group project;
2. develop and improve their own learning and performance as critical, reflective and independent learners;
3. apply project management where appropriate;
4. extend their planning, research, critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills;
5. where appropriate, develop as e-confident learners and apply new technologies in their studies;
6. develop and apply skills, demonstrating initiative being acquired through other qualifications or study programmes;
7. use their learning experiences to support their personal aspirations for higher education and career development.

The project will develop and extend from one or more of the learner's study area and/or from an area of personal interest or activity outside their main programme of study. It develops personal and communication skills as well as research and analytical skills. Learners can progress on to Higher education or into employment.
