NVQ - National Vocational Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
Candidates have several options for progression from the NVQ Level 3 in Sports Development.
Some may complete the additional assessments for Key Skills and the technical certificate required
for the SkillsActive Advanced Apprenticeship.
Alternatively, candidates may opt to progress to generic management qualifications, such as the
NVQs in Management which are available from Levels 3 to 5, or to one of a range of shorter
management Certificates and Diplomas offered by the Institute of Leadership and Management
(ILM), such as the Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management.
All assessment is work-based. Edexcel issue general guidance to centres that recommends holistic assessment as an holistic and integrated approach to assessment.
All assessed work is subject to internal verification procedures, whereby assessed evidence is sampled on an ongoing basis by appointed and qualified individuals in the centre. External Verification takes place on a regular basis and assessor and internal verification decisions are sampled.
To achieve this qualification, candidates must achieve nine units made up of five mandatory units and four optional units. At least one optional unit must come from Block 1. The remainder can be drawn from Block 1 or 2.
