Qualification summary

The aim is to provide a flexible qualification within the pig production industry.

This qualification is to provide a ‘bite-sized’ competence framework for those working within the pig industry, specifically working with weaner, growing and finishing operations. The request from various organisations within the pig industry (such as NPA and BPEX) was for a range of qualifications that were short, bite sized type, recognising practical skill and underpinning knowledge specific to pig production.

Candidates with this qualification could progress onto other level 2 qualifications in Pig Husbandry Skills (with different rules of combination) by adding further units. They could also progress into level 3 programs similar to this or longer qualifications such as NVQ's. There is slaos a good progression route into employment with this qualification having been developed in conjunction with the Pig Industry.

To achieve this qualification the candidates must achieve the following:
- 1 unit from group M plus
either
- 1 unit each from groups 1A, 1B and 1C
OR
- 1 unit from group 2A and both units from group 2C
OR
- 1 unit from Group 3B and both units from group 3C
