Qualification summary

The specification aims to encourage students to:

a. develop and sustain an interest in health, early years care and education, social care and issues affecting the care sector;

b. acquire knowledge and understanding of health, early years care and education and issues affecting the health and social care sector;

c. develop skills that will enable them to make an effective contribution to the care sector including skills of research, evaluation and problem-solving in a work-related context;

d. apply knowledge, understanding and skills;

e. prepare for further study and training.

All AS and A2 units are assessed through independent assessment and holistic assessment is addressed within A2 units.

This qualification will comprise six AS and three A2 units to include the mandatory units for the AS single award and for the A Level single award.
Units 1,2, 3 and 11 are mandatory plus three AS units (from units 4-10), at least one of which must be externally assessed (Units 4-6), plus any two optional A2 units (from units 12-21), at least one of which must be externally assessed (Units 12-15).
