EDEXCEL Level 2 NVQ in Instructing Exercise and Fitness
Qualification summary
The Edexcel Level 2 NVQ in Instructing Exercise and Fitness recognises the skills, knowledge and understanding of candidates and allows them to gain a qualification in the workplace that relates to their job area and promotes good working practice.
The standards on which these NVQs are based have been developed by SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for this industrial sector.
The Edexcel NVQ in Instructing Exercise and Fitness is presently available at Level 2 and is suitable for those who work as (or aspire to work as) coaches, teachers and instructors whose primary purpose is to bring about consistent improvements in participants level of physical fitness. They will be capable of planning, delivering and evaluating sessions in the context of exercise and fitness.

This NVQ will offer a progression route into employment opportunities in the sports industry, or a wide range of study in further education including:
• other NVQs in related areas
• BTEC First and National qualifications in related areas (including Performance and Excellence and Sports Development and Fitness)
• general qualifications in related areas (including GCSE or GCE PE and GCE Leisure Studies).

The qualification is internally assessed and verified and externally verified according to the NVQ Code of Practice.
Candidates must complete all units in Group A, Mandatory Units. Candidates must also complete both units from one of three optional routes which cover Group Exercise with Music; Gym-based Exercise; and Water-based Exercise (total five units).
