EDEXCEL Level 3 NVQ in Spectator Safety

Qualification summary

Currently Edexcel offers the Level 2 NVQ in Spectator Safety and there is no subsequent progression route. Spectator Safety will be a high profile area in the light of the London Olympic Games in 2012. The Football Licensing Authority has indicated that in the new 2008/9 season, all spectator safety personnel will require a qualification appropriate to their level of responsibility (Level 2 - steward, Level 3 - team leader and Level 4 - team manager). There are approximately 50 stewards per ground, plus one team leader and one manager. The qualifications would also apply to team leaders or managers for cricket and rugby grounds.

The aim of the qualification is to evidence the learning of those working in a supervisory role in the spectator safety industry, eg at sporting events, concerts or carnivals, such as a security officer or manager.
