This GCSE course enables students to broaden their Key Stage 4 educationand provides a basis for progression to GCE Health and Social Care. It also provides students with an insight into the health, social care and early years sectors by providing a foundation for vocational training and employment.

Task-based controlled assessment
Written Examination
This double award specification comprises two external assessments and two controlled assessments.
The external examinations last 1 hr 30 mins each and include short-answer questions and structured questions that require extended writing (SA2 and DA2). All questions are compulsory. The DA2 paper is based on pre-release materials which are issued 8 weeks in advance of the examination.
The controlled assessments (SA1 and DA1) require candidates to plan and carry out investigations and tasks in which they:
• analyse issues and problems;
• identify, gather and record relevant information and evidence;
• analyse and evaluate evidence; and
• make reasoned justifications and present conclusions.
