EDEXCEL Level 1/Level 2 GCSE in History B
Qualification summary
This specification aims to meet the needs of students by enabling them to understand the world in which they live, the process of change and continuity and to think critically and make judgements about human situations.
The specification requires the study of history in depth and thematically. It provides the opportunity to study history on a variety of scales – local , national, European, international and across a range of perspectives such as political, social and economic.
Students are required to undertake a study in development through an extended period of time (the middle ages to the present day); an associated study in depth; a source based enquiry; and to complete a task under controlled conditions.
Unit 1 enables students to show their understanding of key concepts including change over time.
Unit 2 allows students to deploy detailed knowledge and understanding of the linked depth study, to analyse and evaluate a range of sources of information including representations and interpretations of events, people and issues. The unit enables students to demonstrate the knowledge of the historical process and skills of enquiry.
Unit 3 requires students to analyse and evaluate sources drawing relevent conclusions.
Controlled assessment enables students to make use of historical sources and broaden the assessment experience.
