Qualification summary
The Edexcel GCSE in Leisure and Tourism (Double Award) encourages students to be inspired, moved and changed by studying a broad , coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study and gain an insight into related sectors such as business, retail and distribution and hospitality and catering. They should prepare students to make informed decisions about further learning opportunities and careers choices.
The Edexcel GCSE specifications in Leisure and Tourism (Double Award) enables students to:
- actively engage in the study of leisure and tourism to develop as effective and independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds
- understand the nature of the leisure and tourism industry
- develop an understanding of the contribution leisure and tourism makes to society and the economy
- develop an awareness that health and safety issues are integral to leisure and tourism
- develop an awareness and understanding of sustainable development and environmental issues
- appreciate diversity and recognise similarities and differences of attitude and cultures in society
- explore the functions of sales and promotion in the leisure and tourism industry.

Task-based controlled assessment
Written Examination
Each unit will be assessed independently. However the teaching of the units can be carried out in a holistic way.
The GCSE in Leisure and Tourism (Double Award) consists of four manadatory units. Units 1 and 3 will be assessed externally by written examination and units 2 and 4 will be assessed internally under controlled conditions.
