NVQ - National Vocational Qualification
For information on the approval of qualifications for funding in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, see the links to DCSF, DIUS, DCELLS, DELNI and DENI below.
When undertaking a qualification that does not appear on the governments' lists as eligible for funding for specific age ranges, users must be aware of legal requirements. Not all qualifications are suitable for all age ranges.
Level 3 will typically be studied by those progressing from Level 2 VRQ or NVQ qualifications in this vocational area. However, it’s also likely to be taken by ‘Level 3 jumpers’ (a learner who doesn’t have a level 2 qual but whose experience of, and skills in, work qualifies them for a level 3). The following qualifications may be classed as suitable starting points:
Level 4 NVQ in Health and Social Care
NVQ Level 3 in Management
NVQ Level 4 in Management
NVQ Level 4 in Leadership and Management in Health Care Services
Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care
NCFE complies with the Skills for Care and Development Assessment Strategy, approved May 2004. Independent assessment will be through external verification procedures documented in ‘NCFE Guidance for Internal Verifiers of NVQ’s’ 2007 and ‘NCFE Guidance for External Verifiers of NVQ’s’ 2007, which were banked with QCA as part of the agreed Part ‘A’ Submission to run NVQs.
Centres will need to ensure they have robust quality assurance of assessment systems in place following internal verification procedures specified by NCFE. Common assessment methods include: assessor observation, witness testimonies, authentic records of work, oral and written questioning and simulation where appropriate.
This qualification provides pathways to the following qualifications:
Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care (Adults)
