Qualification summary

The Cambridge International Level 1/Level 2 Certificate provides a broad programme of study with a global perspective for students in the twenty first century.

The syllabus assesses student’s ability to use Hindi as a medium of practical communication, and is aimed at students for whom Hindi is not a first language/mother tongue but for whom it is a lingua franca or language of study.

The aims set out below describe the general educational purposes of a course in Hindi as a Second Language, and are the same for all students. They are not listed in order of priority.

The aims are to:

1. develop the ability to use Hindi effectively for the purpose of practical communication;
2. form a sound base for the skills required for further study or employment using Hindi as the medium;
3. develop an awareness of the nature of language and language-learning skills, along with skills of a more general application;
4. promote student’s personal development.

Cambridge International Level 1 /Level 2 Certificates are general qualifications that enable candidates to progress either directly to employment, or to proceed to further qualifications. This syllabus provides a foundation for further study at levels 2 and 3 in the National Qualifications Framework, including GCSE, AS and A level GCE, Level 2 and Level 3 Asset languages qualifications and Cambridge Pre-U qualifications.

Candidates who are awarded grades C to A* are well prepared to follow the Cambridge International A and AS level Hindi syllabus.

The qualification is assessed using independent and holistic assessment.
All Cambridge International Level1/Level2 Certificate syllabuses follow a general pattern. The main sections are: Aims; Assessment Objectives; Assessment; Curriculum Content.

The Cambridge International Level1/Level2 Certificate in Hindi is assessed through 2 components. The assessments all take place at the end of the two-year course and a single grade is awarded.

All candidates are eligible for the award of grades A* to G.

Paper1 contains questions set on reading passages provided on the question paper, transfer information and make brief notes from text given in the question paper and write continuous prose for a given purpose. Dictionaries may not be used.

Paper 2 assesses listening skills where candidates are required to answer questions based on spoken texts. Dictionaries may not be used.
