LAMDA Level 3 Certificate in Communication (QCF)

Qualification summary

Purpose of the Qualification

LAMDA examinations in Communication are designed to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication.

Learners who prepare themselves appropriately will develop:

1. Interpretative skills
2. Technical skills
3. Knowledge appropriate to the chosen option.

Performance:
Learners will be able to integrate consciously their knowledge, understanding and skills in a secure and sustained communication performance which demonstrates a mature understanding of the material. They will demonstrate confidence, a sense of ownership, and self-awareness, resulting in a discriminating and sensitive personal interpretation which conveys complexity and range of meaning and an appreciation of style. Presentation will be grounded in thorough and relevant preparation and will demonstrate authority and control.

Repertoire:
These features will be demonstrated through material drawn from significant authors, past and present, from the field of world literature. It will be selected in line with some acknowledged principles, for example coverage of different genres and styles, or coherence/contrast of theme, setting, character, mood. Overall length and demand will be sufficient to enable variety and range of presentation to be demonstrated and sustained. Content will be concerned with subjects of substance which include some depth of thought, enabling the learner to engage with complex emotions and universal themes. It will require analysis and reflection in the preparation, and present challenging technical requirements in terms of vocal range. The choice of language and syntax will demand considerable inferential understanding and thoughtful interpretation to reflect subtleties of meaning.

The specification for Graded Examinations in Communication is divided into four distinct levels in line with the Qualifications and Credit Framework and is designed to provide pathways into a range of higher level certificates and diplomas which may offer a further vocational or professional progression route. These examinations are designed on a model of ‘progressive mastery’. Each grade is self-contained but builds on the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired at previous grades as well as applying practical skills in the context of a progressively complex repertoire.

Structure and Pathways:

Entry Level 3: Entry
Level 1: Grades 1, 2, 3
Level 2: Grades 4, 5
