Qualification details

Edexcel Level 1 BTEC Certificate in Travel and Tourism (QCF)

Qualification summary

This qualification is designed for:

- Learners in school and/or college who are preparing for work or work experience
- Adults who may be entering employment for the first time, those returning to work after a gap of several years, or those wishing to change their career or occupation.

The qualification will sit within the Foundation Learning Tier progression pathways as both a vocational and personal and social development qualification. It will allow learners to develop skills for work within the context of travel and tourism.

The Entry level units aim to interest the learner in the Travel and Tourism sector and to introduce the learner to skills required to work in travel and tourism such as research, planning and communicating with others through tasks such as researching a travel and tourism destination, planning and taking part in a day trip and planning a display of travel and tourism information.

The Level 1 units build on these skills and focus on specific areas and job roles within travel and tourism.

The Level 2 units will allow learners to develop further employability skills in dealing with colleagues and customers and will give them the opportunity to achieve units at a higher level.

The qualifications will give learners the opportunity to develop confidence, self-esteem and the knowledge and skills necessary to enter employment, return to work, seek new job opportunities or move on to further education. The qualifications offer opportunities for learners to develop 'cross cutting' employability skills through a variety of practical exercises that are linked to the vocational area of travel and tourism.
