Qualification details

EDEXCEL Level 1 BTEC Award in Caring for Children (QCF)

Qualification summary

This qualification aims to give learners the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed for caring for children. The qualification is designed for adults who may be responsible for caring for their own children, and learners in school and/or college who wish to develop personal and life skills. Following the successful achievement of the qualification some learners may progress onto qualifications that have been specifically designed for those seeking employment in the sector.

These units will introduce learners to various aspects of caring for children. The Entry level units cover aspects such as communicating with young children, respecting children and dealing with young children’s physical care needs. The Level 1 units build on these areas and also cover activities to carry out with children such as creative activities, group activities, musical experiences and stories and rhymes.

At the same time the units will allow learners to develop personal skills such as communication, team working and self management in the context of caring for children.

While the overall qualification is at Level 1, some units will be at Entry Level 3 to allow learners to develop their skills in these areas if necessary. The Level 2 units will allow learners to build on their personal skills such as managing money and self-assessment, and will give learners the opportunity to achieve units at a higher level.
