EDEXCEL Entry Level Award for Parents to Be (Entry 3) (QCF)

Qualification summary

This qualification has been developed in partnership with the Nationwide Community Learning Partnership (NCLP). The units are based on the YMTB Skills for Life Competence Award.

The units are aimed primarily at young people who are either expecting a child, or who would like to have children in the future. It is intended that the units appeal to both mothers and fathers. The units will develop learners' knowledge, understanding and skills for bringing up a baby. The units cover antenatal development and caring for a baby, as well as the responsibilities of parents and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. If they wish, learners also have the opportunity to take units covering areas such as searching for and applying for a job.

It is intended that this qualification will sit under the personal and social development strand of the Foundation Learning Tier Progression pathways.

This qualification will allow learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills for bringing up a young baby.

This qualification is not designed to give the learner vocational employability skills, but if they wish, learners will have the opportunity to develop skills needed to search for and apply for a job, interviews, and career progression.

Learners may also build on these units to progress to the Edexcel Level 1 Award for Parents to Be, the Edexcel Level 1 Award in Parenting, or the Edexcel Level 1 Certificate for Parents to Be and Parents.

In order to achieve this qualification, the learner may only select units from the Edexcel Entry Level Award for Parents to Be (Entry 3) (QCF). Units from other awarding bodies may not be included in this qualification.

To achieve this qualification, the learner must achieve a minimum of six credits. Learners must achieve the two mandatory units from Group A and another one or two units from Group B.
