EDEXCEL Level 1 Certificate for Parents to Be and in Parenting (QCF)
Qualification summary
This qualification has been developed in partnership with the Nationwide Community Learning Partnership (NCLP). The units are based on the YMTB Skills for Life Competence Award and the Parents with Prospects training resources.
This qualification is aimed primarily at young people who are either expecting a child or who are already young parents. However, the qualification may be of interest to people who are planning on having children in the future. It is intended that the units will appeal to both mothers and fathers.
The units will develop learners' knowledge, understanding and skills needed for bringing up a baby, and young children. The units cover areas such as antenatal development and birth and caring for a baby, developing communication, relationships and play with children, maintaining a healthy lifestyle for parenting and healthy eating for children, and keeping children safe. If they wish, learners also have the opportunity to take units covering areas such as searching for and applying for a job.
It is intended that this qualification will sit under the personal and social development strand of the Foundation Learning tier Progression Pathways.

This qualification will allow learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills for bringing up a baby and caring for young children.
This qualification is not designed to give the learner vocational employability skills, but if they wish, learners will have the opportunity to develop skills needed to search for and apply for a job, interview skills and career progression.

To achieve this qualification, a learner must achieve a minimum of 13 credits. Learners must achieve a minimum of 10 credits from Group A. Learners may achieve a maximum of 3 credits from Group B.
