Qualification summary

The Level 2 BTEC Subsidiary Certificate in Sailing and Watersports is drawn from the Sport and Active Leisure sector suite of units. The Level 2 BTEC Subsidiary Certificate is a work-related qualification that focuses on the development of practical skills and underpinning knowledge in sailing and watersports. It is designed for learners in full and part time education.

The Level 2 BTEC Subsidiary Certificate in Sailing and Watersports prepares learners and provides underpinning knowledge required for progression to industry recognised qualifications. Units are signposted to National Occupational Standards for this purpose.

The two mandatory units contain practical sailing skills and underpinning knowledge judged to be essential for working in the sailing and watersports industry.

The units are structured to enable the most appropriate and realistic forms of assessment to be utilised.

Learners could progress onto the Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate/Extended Certificate/Diploma in Sport or the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma/Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport and Sport and Exercise Sciences.

These BTEC Short Courses are not intended to provide competence for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) qualifications, but are aimed at providing a route and preparing learners should they proceed to take RYA qualifications.
