EDEXCEL Level 1 BTEC Award in Art and Design (QCF)
Qualification summary
This qualification aims to give the learner the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge that are used within the art and design sector.
The qualification is designed for learners who may be entering employment for the first time, those returning to work after a gap of several years or those wishing to change their career or occupation. Learners may have basic skills gaps which would prevent them from embarking on a Level 2 qualification.
The choice of units give a broad overview of the art and design sector in order to give an idea of what area of the industry the learner may choose to further develop their skills. The Entry level units cover different areas of art, design and crafts giving an introduction to the various methods, tools and techniques that are available.
The level 1 units build on the areas covered in entry level, looking at the development of specific areas in more detail. Other Level 1 units cover specific skills, such as explore drawing, explore painting and explore printmaking.
Whilst the overall qualification is at Level 1, some units will be available at Entry Level 3 and Level 2 to allow learners to develop their skills in these areas if necessary. The Entry level units will be practical in nature and learners will develop their work-based skills through the qualification such as effective communication, working collaboratively and reliability.
