The aim of this qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence demonstrated by an individual in the workplace.

This Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Tunnelling Operations provides the opportunity for individuals who specialise in Hand Miner, Shaft Miner, Tunnelling Machine Operator, Machine Tunnelling Operator, Spoil Removal Equipment, Tunnel Services, Tunnel Transport, Tunnel Fitter's or Tunnel Electrician's Mate, Sprayed Concrete Lining Tunnelling, Pipejacking or Micro-Tunnelling, or Separation Plant to demonstrate their competence.

Candidates who have achieved NVQ units within the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) with Cskills Awards or with another Awarding Organisation may be considered as exemptions from the equivalent units within the QCF.
The assessment requirements specified by the SSC apply to all the units in this qualification.
To achieve this Qualification candidates must complete all 4 mandatory core units in Group A; plus one pathway from Group B to achieve a minimum total of 38 credits.

In addition candidates may choose to do the Additional unit from Group C. Credit from this will be noted on the certificate, but will not count as part of the qualification.
