Unit summary

This unit covers the correct use of safe moving and handling techniques to ensure that the risks of injury to the Ambulance Care Assistant and patients and clients are minimised.

This unit gives learners an understanding of the principles and practices of the safe moving and handling of patients. It includes the use of a range of equipment commonly used to move and handle patients as well as an appreciation of the kinetics and techniques of moving a patient. Learners will develop an understanding of the value and benefits of safe moving and handling and the principles of preliminary and dynamic risk assessment, thereby minimising any risk of personal injury to themselves, colleagues or the patient.
