Freelance Work in Art and Design
Unit summary
This unit will prepare the learner for successful freelancing in their specialist practice. Exploring the methods employed by contemporary practitioners will contribute essential knowledge and understanding of the varying business, artistic and personal requirements for self employment in art, craft and design. The learner will investigate considerations such as preparation, organisation and management of practical resources. This might include simple finance and tax, considerations of what constitutes a realistic budget, income and expenditure and the process of securing contracts through self-marketing and using agents. Learners will recognise the importance of self promotion as a freelance artist, where income will depend on market forces and publicity of their artwork. The learner will also recognise the value of sustaining motivation through networking and keeping in touch with current practice
