Exploring Non-resistant Materials
Unit summary
The purpose of this generic unit is to provide a thorough grounding in knowledge and understanding of related materials, collectively known as non-resistant, which have common properties and characteristics, but individual distinctions. Successful three-dimensional work is dependent on this underpinning knowledge for informed selection of materials, techniques and processes at all stages of the design process. It is important that learners have set times and opportunities to research, investigate and experiment, without the pressures of finished outcomes, therefore the emphasis of this unit is on exploratory work. Learners may focus on one or several non-resistant materials to explore, such as clay, paper, plaster, plastics and fibres and their related technologies.
