The assessment criteria incorporate the following terms and they must be interpreted as below within assessment
Conditions are health and safety; environment; time; recording systems; cleanliness; external influences giving rise to variations
The assessment must incorporate the requirements defined in Energy & Utility Skills assessment strategy for competence-based units and qualifications
The unit is based on the National Occupational Standard “On-site testing to maintain the quality of treatment processes” within the suite Treatment Process Operations so that complete and valid transfer of evidence is possible without any confusion concerning the current Water Sector NOS derived units in NVQs and the emerging QCF units in the water sector

Learning Outcome Assessment Criteria
1. Prepare to test equipment and materials 1.1
Follow all procedures where they are a lone worker
1.2
Check and prepare the resources and equipment to be used to carry out the test and make sure it is ready, clean and serviceable
1.3
Confirm the PPE is serviceable before it is worn
1.4
Match the samples to be tested against those specified in the work instructions and documentation
1.5
Operate the equipment in line with procedures
1.6
Make sure there is provision to dispose of waste materials safely
2. Carry out on-site tests on samples 2.1
Follow procedures to test samples as specified in the work documentation

Carry out tests

Clean equipment before storage and return the work area to a clean and hygienic state

Take into account conditions and other factors which might have an effect on the test

Return materials which can be re-used to store and make up any shortfall
