Qualification summary

This qualification is aimed at young and adult learners who would like to pursue a specialised administrative career path within a health care environment. It will enable them to develop an understanding of how to provide medical administrative support, communicate effectively with patients and health care professionals and of the principles of working in a medical environment. In addition to learning specialist terminology, they will have the opportunity to gain knowledge of working in the NHS and to apply their understanding in a workplace setting. With optional IT units learners can develop the essential knowledge and skills required to provide effective support within any health care setting.

This qualification provides opportunities into employment within health care administration and/or other qualifications such as the Level 3 Certificate in Medical Terminology, Level 3 Certificate in Medical Administration and/or Level 3 Diploma for Medical Secretaries. Learners may wish to gain wider, more general knowledge and skills by progressing on to the Level 2 and 3 N/SVQ in Business and Administration and the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Business and Administration.

The learner needs to achieve a minimum of 42 credits to gain the Level 2 Diploma in Medical Administration. They have to complete four mandatory units (31 credits) and achieve a futher 11 credits from a range of optional units.
