EDEXCEL Level 1/Level 2 GCSE in Spanish: spoken language (Short Course)
Qualification summary
This qualification encourages students to derive enjoyment and benefit from language learning, and be inspired, moved and changed by following a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study. Learners should recognise that their linguistic knowledge, understanding and skills help them to take their place in a multilingual global society and also provide them with a suitable basis for further study and practical use of the language. GCSE specifications in modern foreign languages should prepare learners to make informed decisions about further learning opportunities and career choices.
All GCSE specifications in Spanish enable students to:
• develop understanding of the language in a variety of contexts
• develop knowledge of the language and language learning skills
• develop the ability to communicate effectively in the language
• develop awareness and understanding of countries and communities where the
language is spoken.
The Edexcel GCSE in Spanish: spoken language (short course) requires learners to recognise different types of spoken Spanishand to use the language for different purposes. In line with the new criteria, the specification also enables teachers and students to exercise greater choice of content and follow either ‘general’ or more vocationally-orientated pathways. This specification enables students to focus on those areas and interests that they consider particularly relevant and engaging whilst acquiring knowledge of key grammar and language structures, developing effective Spanish-language communication skills and gaining an appreciation of other cultures.
