Qualification summary

The qualification aims to:
• extend candidates’ creative craft skills to an advanced level
• extend creative and intellectual abilities, eg communication, innovation and critical evaluation
• extend awareness and understanding of Health and Safety issues
• provide the opportunity for personal development
• provide a basis for progression onto further study

The objectives of the qualification are to help candidates to:
• use craft materials and techniques fluently
• use craft tools and equipment competently and safely
• develop an advanced understanding of Health and Safety considerations
• provide evidence of Key Skills attainment, where appropriate

The NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Creative Craft can be used in conjunction with a range of other NCFE
qualifications to provide progression opportunities and enrich the curriculum. In particular it
complements NCFE qualifications in the Art, Craft and Design and Media, Performing Arts and
Photography sectors.

The NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Creative Craft aims to provide progression towards:
• NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Art and Design
• NCFE Level 2 and Level 3 Certificates in Photography
• NCFE Level 2 and Level 3 Certificates in Interactive Media
• Craft-specific qualifications eg in Fashion, Interior Design, Flower Arranging
• NVQs in Craft related qualifications

Portfolio of Evidence
This qualification is assessed via an internally assessed and externally moderated portfolio of evidence.

Each candidate is required to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all
learning outcomes associated with each unit.

The main pieces of evidence for the portfolio are project/assignment, witness testimony, candidate report, questioning, product evidence, observation of candidate performance.

Evidence may be drawn from actual or simulated situations, as appropriate.
Assessment guidance is provided for each unit although Assessors may use alternative methods which are equally valid, reliable and maintain the integrity of the assessment and of the standards required of the qualification. Assessors must be satisfied that candidates have achieved all learning outcomes related to the unit.
All units are mandatory.
