The NEBOSH National General Certificate offers aspiring health and safety practitioners a sound basis for further professional study such as the NEBOSH National Diploma (a.k.a. the NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety). It also provides a route for more specialist study - for example, unit NGC1 forms part of the NEBOSH National General Certificate, the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate (a.k.a. the NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Construction Health and Safety) and the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management (a.k.a. the NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management).
NGC1 and NGC2 are each assessed by one two-hour written examination. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
NGC3 is assessed by one two-hour practical examination. NGC3 is internally assessed by the course provider and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
The qualification consists of three mandatory units. Once candidates have been awarded a Unit Certificate for all three units, the marks for all three units are added together to determine the final grade for the qualification.
