The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate offers aspiring health and safety practitioners a sound basis for further professional study such as the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (a.k.a. the NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety). It also provides a clear route to further specialist study - Unit NGC1 already forms part of both the NEBOSH National General Certificate (a.k.a. the NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety) and the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management (a.k.a. the NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management)

NGC1 and NCC1 are each assessed by a two-hour written examination. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

NCC2 is assessed by a two-hour practical examination, internally assessed by the programme organiser and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
The qualification consists of three mandatory units. Once a candidate has been awarded a Unit Certificate for all three units, the marks for all three units are added together and the total determines the final grade.

Candidates already holding the unitised NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (a.k.a the NEBOSH National General Certificate) or the NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management qualification will be exempt from unit NGC1. This exemption lasts for five years from the successful result declaration date of the NGC1 unit.
