OCR Level 2 NVQ for IT Users (iTQ)
Qualification summary
This NVQ is designed to reflect the work of everyone who uses IT skills for different purposes in their day to day work roles, and recognise skills and knowledge already acquired either through other qualifications or previous experience and learning.
Individuals need IT skills to maximise efficiency in their occupation. Using IT can range from routine word/transaction processing, to constructive use of the powerful application packages that are available.
The aim of this qualification is to recognise the application of a range of IT user skills and knowledge in the workplace, meeting employer workforce demands. The flexibility of these qualifications will enable individuals’ skills to be adapted for a specific work based activity and/or employer requirement.
These qualifications allow for flexibility and choice. Candidates and employers can identify the most appropriate units and levels of skills to meet their needs in the workplace and candidates can have a range of competences recognised at lower or higher levels than the base level chosen, where appropriate.
This qualification also allows Vocationally Related Qualifications to be recognised towards the overall achievement of the qualification, building on individuals’ previous achievements and learning.
This NVQ will allow for progression to and from OCR’s existing portfolio of IT qualifications and will complement other vocational qualifications.

progress to the OCR Level 3 NVQ for IT Users, or
widen their specialist skills and undertake the new OCR Level 3 Certificate for IT Users (CLAiT Plus), which could include Microsoft® Specialists Units.
Equally, a candidate having already achieved a qualification such as the CLAiT Plus is in an ideal position to build on the skills and knowledge gained and bring it forward for recognition within the NVQ.

All units are locally assessed and internally verified before being subject to external verification. Candidates are required to meet all the standards as stated in the Areas of Competence. Assessment activities will take the form of either work-based tasks, simulated exercises or Accreditation of Prior Achivement from a contributing qualification, for the optional units. For the mandatory unit, assessment activities must be through the production of work-based evidence; simulation and contributing qualifications are not allowed. All centres are subjected to the rigour of OCR centre inspections.
The units within the qualification have been assigned unit values (UVs) and to achieve a full OCR IT User Level 2 NVQ, candidates must achieve a minimum total of 100 UVs.
In composing a qualification for individual candidates, the following requirements and restrictions must be considered:
The mandatory unit undertaken determines the overall level of the qualification.
Each Area of Competence can contribute to a qualification at one level only.
At least 50% of the unit value of the optional units must be achieved at the level of the Qualification; this equates to 40 UVs for Level 2.
The remaining unit values can be achieved by units at below, or above, Level 2.
