The assessment arrangements for this qualification follow NOCN standard practice. Assessment for each unit has been designed on a standard template called Unit Plus, in which the appropriate assessment activities have been selected by NOCN from a standard menu, and designated as either prescribed or optional. Centres will develop specific assessment tasks, from the assessment activities, which are fit for purpose for their learners.

Consistency is achieved because assessment tasks will be developed in line with guidelines set out in the Assessment Definitions document. Furthermore, Centres offering this qualification will be required to undertake internal verification in which assessment practice is sampled across the provision to ensure consistency and fairness. Internal verifiers will report on issues of inconsistency and unreliability, including action for improvement. Consistency across Centres will be promoted by NOCN Quality Reviewers who compare assessment practice within OCN regions, and make recommendations or set conditions as appropriate. Finally, NOCN Quality Reviewers will be required to provide samples of assessment for national standardisation, at which standards are discussed and agreed. Outcomes of national standardisation will be fed back to Centres to ensure they understand and work to national standards of assessment.

This qualification will also be managed by a Lead OCN, which will take responsibility for receiving feedback from OCNs about the fitness for purpose of the qualification. The Lead OCN will report to NOCN about any aspect of the qualification which could be amended to improve consistency and reliability.
Learners must complete all six unit credits from Group A, plus six unit credits from Group B giving a total of 12 unit credits. For the Award endorsed routes learners must complete all six unit credits from Group A plus three generic optional unit credits from Group B plus three optional unit credits specific to the learner's chosen endorsement.
